Tree, Shrub, and Lawn Watering Needed....Like Yesterday ShareThis
Spring Greetings Loyal Followers of American Arbor Care. Forgive the delay in posting worthy tree and lawn care updates/news so far in 2012. Certainly by now, we all have heard March 2012 may go on record as the dryest in history. We know it is not always easy or convenient to drag out the garden hose, but we guarantee it is worth doing for your landscape. Get whatever water you can to your trees and shrubs.... begin with the newest plants in your yard and work from there. It's still early to risk irrigation system turn on unless you have the ability to turn on and then drain/turn off yourself. But, try to get some water to your turf as well. Otherwise, we all will see damaging affects that come in a variety of forms as the season ahead greets us. Please call us if we may assist you in getting water to your landscape. Call with any other questions and/or concerns as well. posted: March 23, 2012

Normal Needle Cast in Pines and Spruce ShareThis
Typically, pines and spruce will cast (drop) older needles in the fall of the year. Some years are heavier than others. Uniform, browning needles towards the interior of the plant - around late summer/early fall - is part of the needle casting process. Some years are heavlier than others. It is important to note that the new growth, towards the tips of the branches, should not discolor under normal needle casting processes. Be sure to look around your neighborhood and parks to see other pines/spruces doing the same thing. Call us if you have any concerns, and feel free to email us photos to confirm needle casting - or other requests. posted: August 24, 2011

 The Heat Is On! ShareThis
Yes, we received a good amount of rain earlier this season, but some root damage was already done following the 3rd driest December ('10) on record. Possibly more damage to come if we don't up the watering schedule during this very stressful, hot period. Your lawns, trees and shrubs need more water during these 95+ degree days. It will help in the long run. Water is still one of the cheapest management tools for your landscape...especially if you have spent thousands on new landscaping! posted: August 18, 2011

Iron Chlorosis in Denver area trees heavy in 2010 and 2011 ShareThis
Iron chlorosis is a term describing leaf yellowing (lack of chlorophyll) due to insufficient iron. Iron is a mineral essential for plants to make chlorophyll, in turn needed for photosynthesis. Lack of iron in a tree may be due to a high iron need, less effective iron uptake, or insufficient usable iron in the soil. Colorado soils generally have adequate to high iron levels, as evidenced by the many red soils and rock formations. However, Colorado soils are mostly alkaline, causing most of the iron to be in an insoluble form not usable by plants. treatment depends on several factors. Call us for a free evaluation and recommendation. posted: August 10, 2011

Thousand Cankers Disease in Denver area walnut trees ShareThis
Thousand Cankers disease is spreading quickly through Denver area walnut trees. The disease is carried to the trees by a small twig beetle.
